RHS Debate season comes to a close

The second year for the RHS highschool debate team has been met with Major changes not only on the fundamental level, but also on the morale level. 

 

On February 29th the RHS debate team competed in the 6A region tournament with results being mixed overall.

 

The Debate season ended with the team placing 2nd overall in the region tournament and with Prom lining up with the State competitions the team decided that it would be a good end of the first year.

 

“We poured our heart and soul in what we did, we beat Herriman which is always important, and overall we were prepared and worked well as a team,” reminisced Matthew Drachman, ex LD captain. 

 

Region this year the team was not as successful with the team placing 6th overall in all categories. With only 3 of the teams events moving onto the state competitions

 

Public forum Team Ashton Zeeman and Carter Darger took 15th in their event.

 

“The season was pretty good. We didn’t do all that we wanted, but we made some great steps,” Remarked Ashton Zeeman, Public Forum captain.

 

Policy Team Anna Thompson and Connor Young and team Quin Quinley and Camden Stewart both competed in the triple tie for 10th place qualifying for state

 

“This was an important tournament because it was the last tournament after 5 years of debating together so we made it count,” remarked, Anna Thompson

 

“We played hard and worked hard,” added, Connor Young

 

Lincoln Douglas Debater Gage White took 16th in his event while Debater Sean Christner barely scraped into 10th place and qualified for state.

 

“How didn’t region go? you probably don’t want to write bad, it was overall a good experience. I like the part where I almost had a small mental break down in the bathroom,” stated Gage White. 

 

State competition is going to take place March 13-14.
