If you do not know, the movie Midway came out on November 8, 2019 and it’s about one of the most important battles for the US in World War 2. This is actually a reboot of the 1976 movie that bore the same name. The movie is of course a true story with characters that were real people about the stories that did happen in the battle of Midway. The real story behind Midway is of course the real life attack on the Japanese fleet at Midway that happened on June 5, 1942.

I am going to be writing a review on the movie talking about, the cast, the story, historical accuracy, and the special effects. Then perhaps after reading this you yourself might to watch the film. This will be as spoiler free as I can make it.

The movie starts off with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor that took place on December 7, 1941. As spoiler free as I can be, this opening scene is very very interesting, you get a first hand experience on the ships that were docked on Pearl Harbor and its is an interesting recreation on how the real attacks went. This scene was so incredible in its recreation I honestly made me lose my appetite because of how accurately the attacks were recreated with modern technology. Honestly this one scene of this movie is more accurate and overall better than the entirety of Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor.

The scenes following the attack shows the US army, specifically the navy in an anticipated state as they have to wait and think of a plan about how they can “throw a punch at the Japanese fleet” and the trailer for the movie says. They end up hacking a message from the Japanese fleet that exposed that the Japanese were going for an attack on midway, then the US navy sent a fleet of all different types of planes, the Aichi D3A, the B-17 Bomber, the Aichi E13A, and so many more. One of the most important plane fleets where the Aichi D3A, better known as the Dive Bomber.

I won’t be getting into the battle of midway itself because of spoilers, but if you want to experience it for yourself then do consider checking out the movie in theaters now.

There is a diverse cast of characters in this movie and from what I have learned from my research, the actors that portray these characters are the best match for their real life counterpart. The historical accuracy is amazing. Nearly everything that happens in this movie has historical accuracy to the actual events that happened.

Sadly, a lot of people didn’t like this movie all too much, Rotten Tomatoes gave it 42% on the tomato meter but a 92% on the audience score saying quote, “Midway revisits a well-known story with modern special effects and a more balanced point of view, but it’s screenplay isn’t quite ready for battle.”

In my opinion, this is one of the best adaptations of a World War 2 story that I have seen. This is one of my favorite if not my favorite movie that I have seen in 2019, and Avengers Endgame is on that list so you know it’s good, so if you’re looking for a very good and true World War 2 movie, or just an overall good movie then do consider going and seeing Midway.
