“The Crimes of Grindelwald”: Hit or miss?

The Crimes of Grindelwald was a hit for some but a sink for others. Receiving a 40% on Rotten Tomatoes, some critics have said the movie was great, but there were some things that just didn’t fit.

“The production values are amazing in this latest Potterverse adventure, but there are so many convoluted subplots and new characters that some wizarding favorites (creature and human) are underused.” States Sandie Angulo Chen from Common Sense Media.

Sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, The Crimes of Grindelwald continues the story of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). He is sent to New York by Dumbledore (Jude Law) to find Credence (Ezra Miller) and protect him from the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).

Ian Freer from The Empire says, “An enjoyable foray into J.K. Rowling’s imagination, bolstered by a more appealing Eddie Redmayne, but you can’t help feeling The Crimes Of Grindelwald is still treading water until future chapters.”

Seeing it myself a few days ago, I can see where they are coming from. There were some confusing moments in the plot, but it was an amazing movie overall.
