Drake releases two new songs with little warning. “God’s Plan” and “Diplomatic Immunity” were only made known when Drake posted to his fans on Instagram saying that the two songs would be available at midnight. Labeled under an EP Scary Hours, fans assume there is more to come when Drake promised more music in 2018.

After closer inspection of lyrics, it began to be noticed that the raps seemed to be more than just a story. “Diplomatic Immunity” seemed to be hinting towards a rumored romance between Jennifer Lopez and the rapper.

Back in 2016, hearsay began to spread about a fling going on between the two after both of them posted a photo of them cuddling pretty closely on the couch with no captions, but the picture mostly said it all. Later, J-Lo posted a teaser of them together with the caption “Look who rolled up to my show tonight to say hi!!”, along with the hashtag #lovehim. The same picture popped up from Drake with the heart eye emoji.

The two didn’t say much until March 2017 when Lopez explained to The Daily Show, “Let me clear this up. I am not with Drake. Maybe that’s all I need to say.” That, however doesn’t mean they weren’t ‘together’ at some point.

“I’m not sure that implies that they were together though,” Olivia Sorenson explains to me, “they could have just been good friends?”

Late last year, part of “God’s Plan” was released as a teaser of what’s to come from the young artist. Drake seems to be confessing to his imposter syndrome with the lyrics “Yes, I see the things they wishin’ on me” and, “I feel good, sometimes I don’t”. Although fans were excited about both songs, God’s Plan received nearly double the views over “Diplomatic Immunity” within its first week of being released.

Despite the two new songs only being released a couple of days ago, they have both easily secured the top two spots this week. “God’s Plan” is the number one on iTunes Top Songs and “Diplomatic Immunity” is #17. Drake and Juicy J are the only two to have their titles appear more than once on the top ten list. Fans responded accordingly after being surprised with the two new songs after an abnormally long drought from the rapper, having his last releases being from Signs last June. “I’m excited to see more from him!” Jessica Zavala, junior, exclaims.
