The Utah Jazz started the season with a record of six wins and eight losses. The Jazz were looking forward to a great season until Rudy Gobert went down with a contusion in his knee. Rudy is one of, if not the best, players on the Jazz this season. With Gordon Hayward switching to the Celtics, the weight of the Jazz was left on Rudy’s shoulders. Now with him down, who will take his place?

Derrick Favors said that he is ready take his place as center until Rudy can get back on the court. Rudy is supposed to be down for about four weeks if not more. This is a big responsibility on Favors considering how the Jazz play a defensive game, but Favors isn’t worried. Favors played for eighteen games in the 2015-16 season when Rudy was injured the first time.

Is the hope of the playoffs over for the Jazz? Luke Lovendahl says, “It’s too early into the season to tell, but if he is out for more than the four weeks, then yes”. This comment can be frightening considering the truth in it.

Right now the Jazz are ranked tenth in the western conference. This is not the best start, but there is a lot of time left in the season to move up.

Along with Rudy, Dante Exum is injured as well. Dante will be out for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury. Small forward Joe Johnson is out for two weeks with a wrist injury. Tanner Russell says with “three of five starters…injured, they need to get better soon or the Jazz will wave goodbye to their 2017-18 season”.
