As football season comes to a close basketball season falls upon us. Tryouts for the boys basketball team were held November 6th-10th, and we have some returning faces as well as some new faces.

Last year our basketball team ended the season with an overall record of 10-13, and a 4-8 record in region finishing 34th in the state. This year the team looks to improve their record and possibly take region. With returning senior starters like Ben Neilson, Ryen Edwards, Dylan Sanchez as well as everyone’s favorite freshman from last year who is returning as a sophomore Richie Sanders. This year’s team has a lot of promise, and we can’t wait to see how they will prevail.

This year Riverton moved to 6A for basketball as well as every other sport, so this means a region change. Our region now consists of Copper Hills, West Jordan, Herriman, and Taylorsville. The new region adds a new dynamic to the season. Copper Hills, West Jordan, and Riverton are all ranked in the top ten for 6A, but don’t count Herriman out either. Copper Hills has a lot of deep playoff experience, and West Jordan is returning their best player Darrian Nebeker along with a lot of other good players. AJ Neilson who is a third year senior on the team this year said ¨This year, every member of our team is playing for the team, not the individual”. Proving that this team wants to win and isn’t worried about themselves, but the team as a whole. When Senior and starter Ben Neilson was asked what the team has in their favor this year said, “We are a guard oriented team, making us hard to guard in some ways. I think we will have speed, good transition abilities, and good shooting in our favor.” The team is already hard at work practicing and getting ready for the season.

The Silverwolves first game is tuesday November 28th at 7 pm at Brighton High School. Games are Tuesdays and Fridays, and region games begin on January 23rd against Herriman.
